After gaining her PhD and lecturing on art history Dr Strickland pursued a curatorial career, firstly at the Imperial War Museum and then as Curator of the Imperial College Healthcare Charity Art Collection. In 2017 Dr Strickland was appointed as a curator by the National Trust. At Nymans in 2018 she curated an acclaimed exhibition exploring the influence of three women on the garden’s design. Following on from this she ran a conference at Oxford on women gardeners. At Standen in 2019, Dr Strickland curated another, larger exhibition: ‘Morris & Co. Inspired by Nature’, with an associated symposium. Dr Strickland has lectured and written extensively on women artists of the twentieth century, publishing articles and book chapters and in September 2019 her biography of Laura Knight was published as part of a series on modern women artists. She continues, in addition, to pursue her interest in women war artists and has received a research grant to work on those of the First World War.
