Dr Matthew Shaw is a historian of European and American book and manuscripts. His books include history of newspapers in the hand-press era and a study of the French Revolutionary calendar. He previously supported and undertook antiquarian research as Librarian at the Institute of Historical Research, School of Advanced Study, and in several curatorial roles during fifteen years at the British Library, including Curator of Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century Historical and Political Papers and Lead Curator of Americas and Australasian Collections. He has curated number of specialist exhibitions on varied topics including Benjamin Franklin, William Blake, British Constitutional documents and experiences of war. His contributions to scholarship through librarianship, curtain, and academic publishing have made available large amounts of primary textual and visual evidence available to specialists and the interested public.
