Lilian Ladle is a local historian and archaeologist who undertook, directed, and published excavations at Bestwall Quarry (1992-2005) and Worth Matravers (2010-2012). She is preparing the results of her excavations at Druce Farm Roman Villa (2012-2018). Since 1990, Lilian has undertaken work associated with planning applications in South-East Dorset. Her research interests include the production of prehistoric pottery and Roman ironwork. Lilian has written books on the Studland Bay Wreck, the development of Wareham, and the history of Corfe Castle village. In 1986 she founded the Wareham & District Archaeology & Local History Society and is a member and Archaeological Advisor to the East Dorset Antiquarian Society. She is a member of the Poole Harbour Heritage Project and the Dorset Archaeological Committee, and a Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at Bournemouth University. Lilian was awarded an MBE for services to Dorset Archaeology.
