Grounds for election

As a highly respected art and architectural historian of the early modern Iberian world Dr Fernández González has published extensively. Her most recent book, 'Philip II of Spain and the Architecture of Empire', appeared in 2021. She co-edited with Fernando Checa Cremades 'Festival Culture in the World of the Spanish Habsburgs' in 2015. In 2020 she edited another collection of essays with Dr Marjorie Trusted entitled ‘Visual and Spatial Hybridity in the Early Modern Iberian World’ for the periodical 'Renaissance Studies', comprising eight articles centred on the arts and cultures of Latin America, Asia and Europe. She has also held postdoctoral fellowships at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Portugal and the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh.
