Grounds for election
Alison is an emerging global leader in Archaeology. She won a University Medal as an Honours student and Dean’s Award for Outstanding Higher Degree Thesis for her PhD. She went on to win a Marie Curie Research Fellowship at Sheffield then a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellowship as well as a St Cross College Junior Research Fellowship at Oxford (and had to decline a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship) before returning to another postdoctoral role in Australia. Since 2018 she has held a joint appointment as Senior Lecturer in Archaeology at UQ and Group Leader in Archaeobotany in the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany. She has just won a 3-year Australian Research Council Future Fellowship at UQ, the country's most prestigious research award for emerging scholarly leaders. She has 71 peer-reviewed publications including 7 in Nature and since 2010 has won $3.5 million in grants. In 2022 she will present an invited public lecture for SAL.
