Grounds for election

Dr George Azzopardi is an established authority on the archaeology of the Maltese islands and especially Gozo. Throughout his career in the heritage sector, he has contributed widely to the documentation, preservation, interpretation, and curation of Maltese heritage through his field work and surveys, research, and museum work. He has published widely in journals and collected works, besides producing monographs, notably on the Ras il-Wardija Sanctuary (2017) and Elements of Continuity. Stone Cult in the Maltese Islands (2017). While his focus is on the later prehistory and early history of the Maltese islands, his research interests embrace both earlier and later periods with particular focus on continuities and Mediterranean connections.
