Grounds for election

Efrosyni Boutsikas is Senior Lecturer in Classical Archaeology at the University of Kent (UK). After degrees in Archaeology, she completed her 2007 Ph.D. at Leicester on the relationship between astronomy and ancient Greek religion. She now enjoys a leading reputation in archaeoastronomy with a focus on monuments, time, and ritual, culminating in her monograph ‘The Cosmos in Ancient Greek Religious Experience’ (Cambridge UP, 2020) and a co-edited volume in honour of Clive Ruggles, ‘Advancing Cultural Astronomy’ (Springer, 2021). Her papers have appeared in leading journals such as Antiquity and American Journal of Archaeology. She has served as vice-president of the Société Européenne pour l’Astronomie dans la Culture (SEAC), is a Council Member of the International Society for Archaeoastronomy and Astronomy in Culture (ISAAC), and a board member of the Journal of Astronomy in Culture. She is co-director of the University of Kent’s Interdisciplinary Centre in Spatial Studies.
