Grounds for election

Dr Stocker has been Senior Research Associate of the Department of Classics, University of Cincinnati since 2012. Through her fieldwork she has made a significant contribution to the archaeology of Greece and Albania. She was among the archaeological pioneers in Albania after it opened up in the 1990s, co-directing projects at Mallakastra, Durrës and Bonjakët. Since 1997 she has directed the Hora Apotheke Reorganisation Project, which is reorganising and publishing important unpublished material from Carl Blegen’s excavations at the Palace of Nestor, Bronze Age Pylos, Greece. In 2011-15 she directed a US team carrying out rescue excavations there in advance of the installation of a new protective roof over the site. Since 2015 she has co-directed further excavations at the Palace of Nestor, in the context of which she and colleagues made the major discovery of the undisturbed and extraordinarily rich LBA ‘Griffin Warrior’ tomb, a find that has had a wide impact around the world.
