Grounds for election

Dr Alexander specialises in the application of bioarchaeological techniques to understand the dynamics of multi-faith societies. Her research focusses on the diet and resource base of communities through the application of stable isotope analysis to archaeological human and animal populations, with a particular interest in medieval multicultural societies. She has worked on a range of historical societies in Europe and Africa (Spain, Portugal, Italy including Sicily, North Africa, Israel, Tanzania) and has made major contributions to our understandings of Islamic medieval societies in particular.
