Grounds for election
In 2020 Dr Williams was awarded the Ben Cullen Prize for his Antiquity article on the Bronze Age Great Orme mine based on his PhD research. He has written three books on the history of mining sites in Britain and Ireland. In addition, he has published on Bronze Age metal in Historical Metallurgy, Journal of Archaeological Science, and conference papers (Bronze Age Forum and Archaeometallurgy in Europe). Dr Williams specialises in Bronze Age mining and archaeometallurgy applying his wide-ranging expertise in mining, ore geology, trace element and isotope analysis that was gained from his research career as chief geologist for an international company. He was Honorary Secretary of the Chester Archaeological Society for 11 years. He is currently in post at the Archaeology Department of Durham University as the post-doctoral research associate on a major Leverhulme-funded project whose application he co-wrote (Project Ancient Tin: Did British tin sources and trade make Bronze Age Europe?).
