Grounds for election

Augenti is an expert in Medieval urban archaeology of Italy. He has published many important studies that have considerably advanced knowledge in this field, e.g. Il Palatino nel Medioevo (Rome 1996), an overall assessment of the Palatine Hill during the Middle Ages; Vrbes Extinctae. Archaeologies of Abandoned Classical Towns (Farnham 2012, with N. Christie) & La Basilica di San Severo a Classe. Scavi 2006, Bologna 2017, with N. Christie, J. Laszlovsky, G. Ripoll), about the result of the excavations he directed in Classe; ‘Life, Death and Memory’, in M. Carver, J. Klapste, eds, The Archaeology of Medieval Europe, Aarhus 2011, 494-527, with R. Gilchrist; Archeologia dell’Italia medievale, Rome-Bari 2016. In 2018 he has curated the new museum of Classis. He is editor of the journal Archeologia Medievale, member of the International Advisory Board for Medieval Archaeology and of the Scientific Committees of the Colosseum Archaeological Park and the Foundation RavennAntica.
