Grounds for election

Derek has extensive excavation and post-excavation experience developing and managing a wide range of projects, including major urban and rural sites. Notable recent projects include the 3-D modelling of nationally important deposits at Droitwich, and environmental impact assessment and fieldwork which pinpointed, as part of a major infrastructure project, the Battle of Worcester battlefield horizon under alluvium. He is a specialist in the study of ceramics from later prehistory to post-medieval. Working with community archaeological groups for over 30 years, he excavated the first kiln associated with the medieval potteries at Hanley Castle. In addition to numerous grey literature reports, he has published extensively in national and regional journals, monographs and on-line, and was instrumental in realising the prehistoric research assessment for the West Midlands. His present focus is on tackling issues of storage/archives/data, and better integration of archaeology with museums.
