Michael has a 30-year career working in the heritage sector as a professional researcher and curator. He began as an Inspector of Historic Buildings and Monuments at English Heritage, where he worked for 15 years. He then spent 15 years working for the National Trust as curator of buildings, landscapes and collections and then as Regional Curator. He has researched and published on historic properties as diverse as Hill Hall, Audley End house and gardens, Peckover House, Anglesey Abbey and the historic buildings of Lavenham. He has been a trustee of the Gardens of Easton Lodge, and of Stow Maries Aerodrome, both in Essex.
