Cornelius Barton is an experienced professional archaeologist. A pre-PPG16 excavation volunteer in Coventry, since 1990 he has worked in British commercial archaeology. He gained a degree from Sheffield University in 1993 and has worked for firms including Wessex Archaeology and Framework Archaeology. A Partner at L-P: Archaeology since 2011, he is Director of Fieldwork for SE England, managing projects in Hampshire, Buckinghamshire, Kent and Sussex, including recent spectacular discoveries from HS2-funded investigations at St Mary’s Church, Stoke Mandeville. Cornelius has also worked on British Museum research projects at Merv in Turkmenistan and in Sudan, and for UCL in Lebanon. He is Archaeological Project Officer for the Waterloo Uncovered Project which since 2015 has combined research-led archaeological excavation of the Waterloo battlefield site in Belgium with work-based therapy for military veterans with life-changing injuries and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
