Grounds for election
Dr Stijn Van Rossem is a book historian with special expertise in seventeenth-century European print and book culture, historical publishing practices, pre-industrial book culture in the Low Countries, and the history of graphic design. He is currently Curator of Western Religion at Allard Pierson, University of Amsterdam. He was formerly Curator of European Books, John Carter Brown Library, and Director of the Museum of Letters and Manuscripts, Brussels. His many academic publications and exhibitions include contributions to scholarship on the international trade in Catholic books, the production and use of almanacs in early modern Europe, and counter-Reformation book culture. He has long held leadership roles in national and international antiquarian bodies, eg the presidency of the Flanders Book Historical Society (2008-14), chairing the annual conference for the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing (SHARP), and serving on the editoral board of Quaerendo.
