Dr. Toby Jones is a leading nautical archaeologist and the Curator of the Newport Medieval Ship, a 15th Century merchant vessel found in the River Usk in Newport, South Wales, in 2002. His work on other projects around the world includes the Red River Wreck in Oklahoma, the Aber Wrac’h I wreck in Brittany and the Mica shipwreck in the Gulf of Mexico. He has also participated in shipwreck surveys along the coasts of Cyprus and the Algarve. He is Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where he lectures on maritime archaeology, digital recording methods, the history of wooden ship building technology, deepwater archaeology and remote sensing. He also teaches at Bournemouth University and is External Expert at Bradford University. His numerous publications and public lectures embrace many aspects of maritime archaeology, including detailed research into the origins, the biography, the conservation and eventual display of the Newport ship.
