Grounds for election

Dr Devin Fitzgerald is a historian and bibliographer of East Asian and western books. His expertise spans centuries of historical text production in a dozen ancient and modern languages, including Asian, East African, European and Middle Eastern languages. His curatorial practice and contributions to scholarship have involved groundbreaking research on celebrated milestones of cultural heritage, including the Gutenberg Bible, as well as under-appreciated materials that cross cultural and linguistic boundaries, including books printed in Spanish colonial Philippines and Latin America. His historical work redefines the boundaries of his fields with novel methodologies that transform how others can engage with, for example, historical Chinese and Armenian printing and Ethiopic book culture. He has long participated in leadership roles of antiquarian interest in scholarly societies, including the Bibliographical Society of America, and offered specialist training through rare book schools.
