Grounds for election

Christopher is a distinguished antiquarian bookseller who for some 40 years has been assisting public and private libraries internationally in building up literary collections. He has issued 84 scholarly catalogues and has a speciality in placing private collections such as those of David Holland (Librarian of House of Commons) and Brian Findlay (onetime Dean of Divinity, Magdalen College). His literary interests span books and manuscripts from the beginnings to 1850, and his record of placing books in appropriate collections has earned him wide respect within the profession, as has his role in representing institutional libraries in the USA. He is active in academia as member of the Bibliographical Societies of London, Oxford, Cambridge and Virginia and has assisted in forming the Orwell Society as first Chairman and is a Governor of Dr Johnson's House responsible for its library.
