Dr Tom Booth is a Senior Research Scientist in the Ancient Genomics Laboratory at the Francis Crick Institute. He is known internationally for his work on the histo-taphonomy of ancient bones and the archaeogenetics. His histo-taphonomic work has provided the first evidence that Bronze Age people across Britain mummified some of their dead. He has also published histo-taphonomic research on diverse topics such as Iron Age mortuary rites, the identification of stillborn infants and the treatment of medieval human remains during the Black Death. This work has inspired histotaphonomic research in other parts of the world, and Dr. Booth has been involved with publications on funerary ritual in Iron Age Switzerland and Mycenean Greece. Dr Booth is also a leading figure in the study of ancient human DNA from Britain. He is a leading author on archaeogenetic studies investigating migrations into Britain during the Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Late Bronze Age.
