Grounds for election
Simon is a scholar of early modern drama, specialising in theatre history, playhouse music, and material documents. He has been awarded the Shakespeare's Globe Book Award and the University English Book Prize for 'Musical Response in the Early Modern Playhouse, 1603-1625' (Cambridge, 2017), and the Early Theatre Essay Prize honourable mention for work on early prompt-book annotations in a printed play quarto. Other publications include three edited collections, most recently Playing and Playgoing in Early Modern England (Cambridge, 2022), and numerous shorter pieces, most recently an article for English Literary Renaissance (2023) exploring the circulation of a 1620s theatre song through numerous manuscript and print sources. He has supplied historical music for numerous theatre productions, including the iconic Twelfth Night and Richard III Shakespeare's Globe productions of 2012-13. He also acted as historical theatre and music consultant for the BBC adaptation of Wolf Hall.
