Grounds for election
I am an early modern literature specialist with interdisciplinary research interests in law and history, focusing on the evolution of criminal legal process and sanction in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. I have published widely within the law and literature field: my monograph, Crime and Consequence in Early Modern Literature and Law was published by Edinburgh University Press in 2021 and my work has appeared in several edited collections and journals, including The Seventeenth Century and Textual Practice. I have additional research interests in palaeography and manuscript studies, which I teach at Birkbeck. My current research explores seventeenth century criminal transportation to the Americas and includes work with literary texts, popular print (pamphlets and broadsides), and legal manuscript records. I have a strong record of international conferences as well as experience in public engagement events.
