Grounds for election

Mike has spent nearly 30 years working in the archaeological and historic environment sectors. Predominantly working in the north of England, Mike worked for Northumberland County Council as Assistant County Archaeologist and since 2003 he has worked for Historic England. He has played a major role in the understanding, management, research and public promotion of the historic environment as Inspector of Ancient Monuments for Hadrian’s Wall and more recently as Development Advice Team Leader for the North East & Yorkshire region. Mike continues to maintain overall responsibility for Historic England’s work on the Wall and is responsible for leading and managing a professional team of historic environment advisors, working across the North East and Yorkshire. Mike’s professional interests cover issues of management and protection of archaeology and buildings of all periods. He has published on the philosophical and practical issues associated with the conservation and repair of ruins.
