Grounds for election

After a teaching career in secondary schools in Malaŵi and Wiltshire, Wendy Bishop embarked on a new path which included a PhD in landscape history. Stemming from this were two articles for Garden History (2012, 2019). 2021 saw the publication of Wendy’s book, Ornamental Lakes: Their Origins and Evolution in English Landscapes, which made a major contribution to landscape history by re-evaluating the role of lakes in designed landscapes, as well as how they were made and who made them. In recent years, Wendy has become involved in archaeology, both in a practical way and in a more theoretical sense, bringing to bear some of the skills used in studying historical landscapes. Wendy is a member of the Wiltshire Archaeology Field Group committee, helping to organize excavations for members of the Wiltshire Archaeology and Natural History Society. Wendy also contributes to a number of ongoing research projects in her capacity as a leading member of the Field Group and landscape scholar.
