Grounds for election
Huw Groucutt researches human cultural change and migration in relation to environmental change, Mediterranean prehistory and the nature and timing of human expansion through the Saharo-Arabian arid belt. He combines teaching with fieldwork in Arabia and Malta. He has published on: Migration of Homo sapiens out of Africa (Groucutt et al., 2018, ‘Homo sapiens in Arabia by 85,000 years ago’, Nature Ecology and Evolution). Neolithic monumental landscapes in Arabia (Groucutt et al., 2020, ‘Monumental landscapes of the Holocene humid period in Northern Arabia: The mustatil phenomenon’, The Holocene). The end of the Neolithic in Malta (Groucutt et al., 2022, ‘The 4.2 ka Event and the End of the Maltese “Temple Period”’, Frontiers in Earth Science). He recently led a publication in Nature (Groucutt et al., 2021, ‘Multiple hominin dispersals into Arabia over the last 400 thousand years’) and has published several edited volumes and books.
