Grounds for election

Ansell is a scholar of early modern travel history and literature, with a particular interest in the materiality of travel texts. He is currently working on a project related to Sir William Gell FSA's travel in Spain, with a focus upon Gell's engagement with 'Moorish' antiquities. He is collaborating with the British School at Rome and Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities to produce an online transcription and facsimile that preserves as far as possible the material aspects of Gell's notebook. His recent monograph Complete Gentlemen (2021) was published by Oxford University Press and he has published articles in English Historical Review and Historical Journal.
