He has, over the last 40 years, advised more than 60 Oxford and Cambridge Colleges, as well as 24 cathedrals, 5 royal and historic palaces and well over 150 parish churches.
He has contributed articles and papers on furniture, crafts and design history to a variety of learned books and journals, and has lectured widely on Sustainability and Design, a central theme of his work. He has been chairman of the Art Workers Guild.
He has lived at Old Wardour House for 60 years and, aged 7, witnessed the excavations at Old Wardour Castle. In the late 1970s, he was among the volunteer divers recruited to help excavate the contents of the Mary Rose.
His mountaineering exploits include the north face of The Eiger and to within 100m of the summit of Everest by a new route.
