Grounds for election

Following university degrees, Mr Davies initially (2000−07) worked for a commercial consultancy on a range of archaeological survey projects. In 2007, he moved to Norway, where he again worked on survey projects for the archaeological museum, Stavanger. His principal interests are in the area of castles studies, beginning a part-time PhD at Durham on the effective use of geophysical survey methods in the appreciation of earth and timber fortifications in Wales and the Marches. From 2010, he has been an Inspector of Ancient Monuments at Cadw, dealing with statutory casework, but retaining a strong interest in castle studies. He has, for example, led on the current Cadw/EH funded project on Offa’s Dyke; been leading on Cadw’s emergency involvement at Ruthin Castle; and is currently coordinating major programmes of research and conservation at Tintern Abbey, Raglan Castle, and Glyn Pits. He has published on castle studies, including papers, guidebooks and book reviews.
