Hanna Vorholt has made major contributions to research in the field of medieval art and in particular illuminated manuscripts. Her book Shaping Knowledge (2017) presented the first monograph on the transmission of the Liber Floridus, one of the most enigmatic medieval encyclopaedias. Her co-edited books Imagining Jerusalem in the Medieval West (2012), Visual Constructs of Jerusalem (2014) and Between Jerusalem and Europe (2015) are concerned with Jerusalem in its relationship to medieval imagination, art and architecture. She has also published many book chapters and articles and has given many conference papers both in the U.K. and abroad. She was awarded a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship (2022-2024) to write a book, provisionally titled Images on Lines: Ruling and Illumination in Medieval Manuscripts. Hanna is also an inspirational teacher and was awarded a University of York Vice Chancellor’s teaching award in 2018.
