Read History of Art at Cambridge under Francis Haskell. Director of Artemis SA,, leading art-dealing company in Old Master pictures, 1983-95 since when an independent scholar. Researched and authored several books including "Castle Hill: a 300-year history from 1716" (London 2015) and "Clyknell Hall 1710-2010" (London 2020). Pro-bono consultant and expert adviser on Old Master and early British paintings to the Arts Council (Export Reviewing Committee & Acceptance in Lieu) and the National Trust (notably recently in recovering paintings for the historic collection at Ham House). Former Chairman of the Society of London Art Dealers and vice-President of CINOA (Confédération Internationale des Négociants en Oeuvres d'Art.
