Grounds for election

Alan H. Nelson is Professor Emeritus in the Department of English at Berkeley. His specializations are paleography, bibliography, and the reconstruction of the literary life and times of early-modern England. He is editor or co-editor of three collections in the series Records of Early English Drama: Cambridge, Oxford, and London: Inns of Court. He is also one of four editors of the recently-published Oxford, Records of Early English Drama, 2 vols. (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2004). He is a major contributor of essays to "Shakespeare Documented," an online project sponsored by the Folger Shakespeare Library. He is author of Monstrous Adversary: The Life of Edward de Vere, Seventeenth Earl of Oxford (Liverpool University Press, 2003). More recently he has undertaken the reconstruction of private libraries in England of the seventeenth century, including that of Londoner Humphrey Dyson (1582?-1633).
