Dr Alexander Herrera Wassilowsky is Associate Professor at the Department of Art History at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia. He has conducted significant long term research projects on the archaeology of the Andes, particularly in the northern highlands of Peru with a recent focus on symbolic and technical aspects of Andean water management; the role of sound and music in past ritual, and ancient farming practices in climate change adaptions. He has a significant publication record with a number of books including: ‘La recuperación de tecnologías indígenas: arqueología, tecnologías y desarrollo en los Andes’ as well as numerous papers, including : ’Indigenous technologies, archaeology and rural development in the Andes’. in the Oxford Handbook of Historical Ecology and Applied Archaeology; and ‘Heritage tourism, identity and development in Peru’. International Journal of Historical Archaeology.
