Grounds for election
Dr Bispham is being nominated, firstly, for his contribution to the conservation of historic buildings. His thesis was on ‘Historic Imported Softwood in Eastern England’. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, and he has served as a member of the Technical and Science Research Committee of the SPAB. He has taught timber conservation for Essex County Council and for the Islands Council and The National Trust, Jersey, and acts as an expert witness for organisations such as English Heritage, local authorities and SPAB. He has also published on historic joinery.
Secondly, he is nominated for his work on English numismatics of the late medieval and early modern period, in particular the coinages of Stephen and the anarchy, and the base coinages of the Tudors. He is also a Vice-President and past President of the British Association of Numismatic Societies and organised their lecture courses for over twenty years.
