Grounds for election
Peter Aires is the Master of the Charterhouse and a champion of conserving and managing Britain’s ecclesiastical heritage. Formerly an Assistant Historic Buildings Advisor at English Heritage he later became a conservation team leader at East Northamptonshire District Council. Developing a specialism in historic churches he became the Conservation and Development Officer for the Diocese of London, Head of Regeneration for the Churches Conservation Trust, and, more recently, the Chief Executive of the Churches Conservation Trust. His present role makes him responsible for all aspects of the Charterhouse, including care of the Museum and the historic buildings. Amongst board memberships, Peter is a Trustee of the Heritage Alliance and of the Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital. Forthcoming publications include a chapter in the Bloomsbury Handbook of Religion and Heritage in Contemporary Europe due out in September 2023. He was appointed OBE in the 2023 New Year’s Honours List.
