Keith Dowen has spent fourteen years studying and working with European armour at the Royal Armouries, the Wallace Collection and at various Polish institutes, specialising in European armour from the early Middle Ages to the early Modern Period. He has assisted in the cataloguing of armour collections in various museums in this country and at several European institutions. His many publications include articles in academic journals and chapters in books of essays and, as sole author, Arms and Armour of the English Civil Wars (2019). He has lectured widely both in the UK and abroad on arms, armour and military history and has also organised study days and conferences for a range of audiences. He has co-curated several exhibitions. In 2022, with historians Dickon Whitewood and Andrew Boardman, he founded ‘The Palmsunday Field Project’ which aims to reassess the battle of Towton and the events of 1461 within the wider social, cultural and religious context of late-15th-century England.
