Freelance historical and landscape history consultant, researcher, lecturer and writer.

Grounds for election

Alan Crosby is a leading figure in historical research, with a particular focus on Northern England. Work has covered the legal, historical and geographical background for rights of way cases, site histories, manorial and freehold mines and minerals, fisheries and estate development. His clients have ranged from local authorities, the National Trust, landed estates and the BBC. He has a long publication record, covering a range of topics and periods, including work on workers’ housing and guidance for local historians as well as entries in the ‘New Oxford Biographical Dictionary’. In addition he has taught at the universities of Manchester, Liverpool, Keele and Oxford, where he is a popular tutor on the Summer School for Adults. Since 2001 he has been the editor of ‘The Local Historian’ (British Association for Local History). He sits on the board of this organisation amongst others and chairs the Lancashire Local History Federation and Regional Heritage Centre, Lancaster University.
