Grounds for election
Aileen is a historian for Survey of London, the volume series on the history of London's streets and buildings based at UCL, where Aileen teaches MA courses in Architecture and Historic Urban Environments and Architectural History. She worked for 20 years as a journalist, latterly as assistant literary editor on the Sunday Telegraph, where she wrote more than 70 articles. She has contributed to several specialist historical works, including the Grove Dictionary of Art, the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and the forthcoming (2027) Encyclopedia of Vernacular Architecture of the World. Her published work includes Brentham A History of the Pioneer Garden Suburb (2000), Theoria Ruskin and Architecture (2003), Religion in Charles Booth's London Poverty Maps (2019), and is working on a monograph on the architect Edward William Godwin (1833-86). She is honorary academic curator at 7 Hammersmith Terrace, the home of Emery Walker, the antiquary, printer and associate of William Morris.
