Tristan Carter, Professor of Anthropology at McMaster University, is a Eurasian prehistorian with a lifetime commitment to public outreach, who uses lithic studies to engage with Neanderthal behaviour, Neolithisation, Bronze Age value regimes and connectivity, and the archaeology of social gathering. Degrees from Nottingham and the Institute of Archaeology (PhD, 99), were followed by two scholarships at the British School at Athens, post-docs from INSTAP and the British Institute in Ankara, plus 6 years teaching at Stanford University. He directs the McMaster Archaeological XRF Lab, the Stelida Naxos Archaeological Project (Palaeolithic chert source, Minoan peak sanctuary), and the Freston Archaeological Research Mission (Mesolithic camp, causewayed enclosure, henge), providing research materials for 9 PhDs and 13 MAs. He has 146 publications (2985 citations, Google Scholar), 58 with student co-authors, plus research funding of >£1 million as a PI, plus >£10 million as a co-applicant.
